The City of Thunder Bay is extending an invitation to the public to attend a grand opening event celebrating the official launch of the new inclusive playground at Vickers Park.

Vickers Park now serves as the City’s second inclusive play hub, building on the success of the playground built at Boulevard Lake in 2022. Inclusive play hubs are designed to encourage participation by people of all ages and abilities, with features like a poured rubber surface, sensory play areas, adult fitness equipment, and roll-up access to many play elements.

The community is invited to learn more about those features and celebrate the completion of the playground at a grand opening event at 3pm on Wednesday, August 28.

Brief opening remarks will be provided by municipal leaders and a representative from the City of Thunder Bay’s Accessibility Advisory Committee. The Thunder Bay Museum will also be on hand offering activities and sharing information on the history of Vickers Park, which was the site of Fort William’s first playground built in 1915. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.
