June 21, 2017 - The City of Thunder Bay's Clean, Green and Beautiful Committee was pleased to present six secondary schools with grants up to a maximum of $1,000 through the 2016 - 2017 Green & Beautiful School Grant Program earlier this year. Today, Wednesday, June 21, the schools presented their greening and beautification projects funded by the grants to the Clean, Green and Beautiful Committee at City Hall.

"Our mandate is to support projects that beautify our city and enhance civic pride," said Councillor Rebecca Johnson, Clean, Green and Beautiful Committee Chair. "Through the leadership of the educators and hard work of the students, they have been able to use these grants to make a real difference in their school environment. We are thrilled with all they have been able to accomplish."

The schools who received 2016 - 2017 Green & Beautiful School Grants included:

  • Hammarskjold High School
  • St. Ignatius High School
  • Westgate Collegiate & Vocational Institute 
  • Superior Collegiate & Vocational Institute
  • École secondaire catholique de la Vérendrye 
  • Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School

Projects undertaken by the schools included creation of outdoor common spaces, installation of gardens, improved recycling collection and storage and enhancements to bus areas. Full descriptions and photos of the projects can be found online at www.thunderbay.ca/CGBandProud.

The Clean, Green & Beautiful Committee would like to thank all the dedicated educators and committed students who took up the challenge and through their hard work and hands-on labour, have made enhancements to beautify their school space.
