May 18, 2018 - ReStore Week at the Solid Waste & Recycling Facility on Mapleward Road takes place Tuesday, May 22 - Saturday, May 26. During this special week, residents visiting the landfill can donate gently used building materials, appliances, cabinets, furniture, tools, plumbing and electrical materials to Habitat for Humanity's tent - located after the weigh scales, near the public drop-off bins. Habitat Volunteers will be on site at the Landfill accepting reusable household items.
"We are excited to continue our partnership with the Habitat for Humanity ReStore with this special, week-long collection," said Jason Sherband, the City's Manager of Solid Waste & Recycling Services. Last year, ReStore Week events diverted 8,310 kg from the Landfill, and the City hopes to experience similar success during this year's ReStore Week events.
"This will be the first ReStore Week event of the year, aimed at preventing reusable items from being buried in the landfill site," said Randy Moore, CEO of Habitat for Humanity. "If you have a used item and don't make it out during the event, make sure to drop it off at the ReStore at 660 Squier Street."
This initiative supports the City's Solid Waste Management Strategy, which specifies forming community partnerships to reduce and re-use waste. Donating and shopping at the Habitat ReStore helps Habitat for Humanity build affordable homes in our community.
