September 13, 2017 - The City is asking residents to help plan and design new street signs and maps for walkers and cyclists. Good street signs and mapping help people find their way around. This means kids finding their way to school, seniors finding the library, and visitors finding a park or a downtown area. Good signs and maps for cyclists help them know the safest routes across the city. Good signs also make the city streets look great when they're done well.

The City wants to know what the signs should look like, and what destinations they should point people to.
The Pedestrian and Cyclist Wayfinding Plan is currently in development working with Alta Planning and will be completed by March 2018. It will include the design for these new signs and maps and where they should direct people. If you care about how the city streets look, or have ideas about places people should be able to find, get involved.

This week, the Wayfinding design team will be in Thunder Bay looking for feedback; there are many opportunities to participate:

  • Residents can take a survey online at: www.thunderbaywayfinding.com, under "˜Events & Activites', which is open until Sept. 22, 2017.
  • There are two Feedback Cafés planned at Upshot Coffeehouse on Thursday, Sept. 14, from 5 - 6:30 pm, and on Friday, Sept. 15, from 8 - 9:30 am. The Sept. 14 session will be fully-accessible.
  • The Wayfinding design team will be at Intercity Mall on the night of Friday, Sept. 15, from 6 - 9 pm in the Food Court to talk with residents.
  • The Wayfinding design team will also be at the Strong Block festival (on Simpson St. and Rowand St.) Saturday, Sept. 16, from 12 - 3 pm.

Further opportunities to get involved will take place in November 2017 and March 2018.
