December 22, 2015 - The City of Thunder Bay will once again recycle natural Christmas trees this holiday season from December 26 to January 10.
Trees will be ground into wood chips and added to the compost pile at the Solid Waste and Recycling Facility. Compost is given away each spring to beautify residents' lawns and flower gardens.
"Natural Christmas trees are recyclable and can add value to our community," said Jason Sherband, Manager of the City's Solid Waste & Recycling Services Section. "When it's time to pack away your Christmas decorations, remember to take your tree to one of the City's Tree Drop-off Sites, which will open on Boxing Day."
North-side drop-off locations:
- Brent Park (Balsam St at Margaret St)
- County Park Tennis Courts (County Blvd)
- Grandview Arena (Madeline St between Grandview Arena & Westminster United Church - not in the arena parking lot)
- John Jumbo Recreation Centre (Toivo St)
- Strathcona Golf Course
South-side drop-off locations:
- Delaney Arena (Legion Track Dr)
- Kinsmen Northwood Centre (609 James St N)
- Lakehead Labour Centre (Fort William Rd)
- Westfort Playing Field (off Neebing Ave)
- West Thunder Community Centre (915 Edward St S)
Residents are encouraged to remove all ornaments, tinsel and plastic bags from trees before bringing them to a drop-off site. Trees cannot be left at recycling depots or put out for curbside collection. There is no charge for tree chipping.
