Thunder Bay’s first Storywalk, Victor’s Vickers Park Adventure, launched today at Vickers Park. The Storywalk is a story displayed on a series of posts throughout the park to be read as one walks around the park.

The Storywalk was written by Marilyn Grudniski and Julia Crewdson of Little Lions Waldorf and illustrated by Shaun Hedican. Help was received from Generator Insights & Design for the creation of the posts.

Storywalk is sponsored by Big Boreal Adventure, which is a project funded by Little Lions Waldorf Child and Family Centre, with contributions from Thunder Bay District Health Unit’s Healthy Kids Community Challenge and the City of Thunder Bay.

Children and families are encouraged to visit Vickers Park, and read the story as they travel through the park. On each “double page” (post), there is also a physical activity for children to try.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for children to take part in physical activity, all while enjoying the many amenities the park has to offer,” said Marianne Stewart, Healthy Relationships Coordinator – Thunder Bay District Health Unit.

“I am proud to be part of this project and collaborate with all of our great partners,” said Marilyn Grudniski - Storywalk Author and former CEO of Little Lions Waldorf. I hope children for generations to come enjoy the Storywalk, which encourages reading and literature, physical literacy and movement, and spending time outdoors.”

Now that the posts have been installed, new stories can be written from time to time to renew the interest in Storywalk.

The next step is to have a different Storywalk at Boulevard Lake Park.
