As the City of Thunder Bay’s Live on the Waterfront summer concert series winds down for the season, the City is pleased to host a series of professional development opportunities for local musicians on Thursday, Aug. 30.

The first opportunity is an ‘Intro to the Music Business’ series facilitated by Elise Roller of Manitoba Music and writer/producer Tyler Del Pino. It will cover topics such as the business of music, intro to songwriting, DIY tour booking and live show etiquette. The series runs from 3 pm to 7 pm and is open to musicians at any stage in their career. More experienced songwriters are also invited to register for a limited number of 45-minute, one-on-one songwriting mentorships with Tyler Del Pino, taking place on the same day between 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm.

Tyler Del Pino has spent the last 15 years immersed in the songwriting and production world and, in 2016, launched TDP Productions in Winnipeg. Elise Roller is the Professional Development Coordinator at Manitoba Music, offering consultations and organizing workshops to provide professional development to those pursuing a career in music. Roller has been actively involved in the Canadian music scene for nearly a decade.

Registration for each opportunity is $20. Call 625-8463 to register. Course Codes to reference are 401546 (Intro) and 401545 (songwriting sessions) respectively.

The workshops, funded in part by the SOCAN Foundation, follow the grand finale of the 2018 Live on the Waterfront concert season featuring Juno Award winning act DJ Shub, along with Iskwé and Siedd on Wednesday, Aug. 29 from 6 pm to 9 pm.
