February 3, 2015 -Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, Tbaytel and the Lakehead University Thunderwolves Hockey Team have joined forces to promote fire safety with the creation of this year's fire safety hockey cards. Today at St James School members of the Thunderwolves Hockey Team joined Thunder Bay Fire Rescue in educating grade four students.
"Having our players out in the community at schools speaking to children about fire prevention is something that our players love to do, but most importantly believe in," said Lakehead Thunderwolves' Varsity Hockey Executive Director Jason Mallon. "I think when messages as important as fire prevention come from our players to children, it really seems to sink in with the kids. We cannot thank Thunder Bay Fire Rescue and Tbaytel enough for making these hockey cards a reality."
"The focus of the presentation is the importance of smoke alarms and home fire escape planning," said Anthony Stokaluk, Public Education Officer-Thunder Bay Fire Rescue. "Each student attending the presentation received the new Lakehead University Thunderwolves hockey cards featuring very important fire safety messages."
"Health and safety, both at work and out in the community, is a top priority throughout all levels of the Tbaytel organization," said Tbaytel president and CEO Dan Topatigh. "We are pleased to once again be joining forces with Thunder Bay Fire Rescue and the Lakehead Thunderwolves to remind members of the community, both young and old, about the importance of fire safety all year round."
Thunderwolves players and Thunder Bay Fire Rescue will continue to visit elementary schools teaching students the importance of fire safety.
