At 16:33 on Saturday April 20, 2019. Thunder Bay Fire Rescue received a call for a High Angle Rope Rescue on Mt. McKay. Two hikers had become stranded. 4 pumpers, a Technical rescue Technician, Technical rescue trailer, and a Kubota all-terrain vehicle, plus the Platoon Chief Attended the scene. After a 1.5 hour search, the two hikers, a 19 year old male and a 24 year old female, were found and rescued from the mountain. The rescue was hampered by the snow conditions on the mountain as well as the hikers not being able to accurately report their location. Both were checked and found to be uninjured, not requiring medical treatment at the scene.
