December 15, 2014 – Employees of the City of Thunder Bay, Superior North EMS, and Thunder Bay Public Library (TBPL) proudly pledged $227,333.49 to the United Way today following the close of the Municipal Division's 20th Annual United Way Employee Campaign – $36,233.49 over their campaign goal.

“Municipal Division employees have responded to the United Way’s urgent appeal for help due to a projected fundraising shortfall this year.  With the unbelievable support shown by our employees once again we are helping bridge that gap. I am extremely proud to work among them and thank our employees for leading by example, making our community better and improving the quality of life for local people.” said Carol Pollard, General Manager – Corporate Services & Long Term Care, City Treasurer/CFO, and Municipal Division Campaign Chair. “The priorities of the United Way – moving people from poverty to possibility; creating strong, healthy communities; and helping kids be all they can be; align with the goals of our municipality.”

At a special 20th Anniversary wrap-up celebration today, cheques where presented to United Way representatives Jim Madder, 2015 Campaign Chair and Joanne Kembel, Executive Director, valued at:

  • $2,938.25 from the TBPL
  • $38,927.59 from Superior North EMS
  • $185,467.65 from the City of Thunder Bay

Over the past 20 years, the Municipal Division Employee Campaign has given $2,568,987.26 to the United Way to support their efforts. Employees contribute through payroll deduction, monetary donations, Dress Down/Different Days, special departmental initiatives, and events like the Kick-off Luncheon, Spaghetti Dinner & Dance, Mayor’s Mulligan Golf Tournament, and Jeans & Jewels Christmas Party.

Well over 50 per cent of Municipal Division employees financially contributed towards the United Way Campaign, which was organized and supported by more than 250 tremendous volunteers. The Executive Committee would also like to acknowledge and thank the staff of the United Way for their ongoing support and assistance during this campaign.
