The City’s Municipal Emergency Control Group (MECG) met today with community partners as part of its ongoing management of the COVID-19 situation. The group continues to meet bi-weekly to provide a coordinated approach to the community’s pandemic response.
“Our community is in a good place right now,” said Mayor Mauro. “We’ve reached this point because people are getting vaccinated, public health measures are being followed, and community partners are providing a joint response as the situation evolves. I want to thank everyone for their efforts.”
“I’m pleased with the community response,” said Dr. Janet DeMille, Medical Officer of Health. “We are seeing many people coming forward to get both their first and second doses of vaccine and our coverage rates continue to go up. Vaccine clinics are able to serve anyone who wants to get vaccinated and appointments are available. There are many options for people to choose from.”
Dr. DeMille noted that while not everyone is yet eligible to be vaccinated, pointing specifically to those under the age of 12, it is up to the rest of us who can get our vaccines to do so and protect those around us. “COVID-19 is still here and can seemingly appear out of nowhere. It continues to be vitally important, even with our very positive conditions, to follow public health measures and get vaccinated,” added Dr. DeMille.
Those in attendance at the MECG meeting represented the City of Thunder Bay, Thunder Bay Police Service, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, Superior North EMS, St. Joseph’s Care Group, Tbaytel, Thunder Bay Airport, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, Thunder Bay District Health Unit, District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board, Conseil scolaire de district catholique des Aurores boréales, Lakehead Public Schools, the Catholic District School Board, Fort William First Nation, and the Solicitor General’s Office of Ontario.
