The City of Thunder Bay’s second annual Neighbour Day will be taking place Saturday, June 19, presented by Tbaytel. Neighbour Day is a celebration of neighbourhoods and community, providing residents an opportunity to reach out to their neighbours, create new traditions, and build positive and supportive relationships.
“Neighbour Day is the perfect way for us to connect and build a strong and caring community,” says Mayor Bill Mauro. “It allows us to celebrate the heart and spirit of our neighbourhoods while encouraging inclusivity and unity.”
"One of Tbaytel’s promises to Thunder Bay is that we take care of our neighbourhood, which is why supporting Neighbour Day as the presenting sponsor is such a perfect fit,” said Dan Topatigh President & CEO of Tbaytel. “We’d like to encourage everyone in Thunder Bay to create new traditions and celebrate our vibrant and diverse neighbourhoods throughout the city on June 19."
The public is encouraged to start their own neighbourhood tradition. A number of activities and ideas are featured on the Neighbour Day website. They include:
- Neighbour Day cards to say thank you to a neighbour, introduce yourself to new neighbours, or just to brighten someone’s day
- video tutorials on how to decorate your windows, doors or yards with a neighbourhood theme
- colouring pages for children and youth in the Kid Zone section
- links to the Community Economic Development Commission’s Tour App that provides neighbourhood walking tours
- registration for Age Big’s The Great Connector: Zoom for Beginners lessons
Neighbour Day kits will be available at participating Community Centres throughout June to equip children and youth with everything they need to celebrate.
Neighbour Day celebrations can be posted on social media with the hashtag #thanksneighbour to win prizes.
Physical distancing and COVID-19 safety standards are very important to remember and follow when planning Neighbour Day activities. Neighbour Day is supported by The Chronicle Journal, 99.9 The Bay, Country 105, Rock 94, and 91.5 CKPR
