The Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) hosted its 18th Annual Holiday Health Care Career Fair today at St. Joseph’s Heritage.

Formerly Home for the Holidays, the career fair welcomed professionals, students, and new graduates to network with 15 exhibiting healthcare organizations from Thunder Bay and throughout the region. The Holiday Health Care Career Fair initially started as a reception for medical students attending school outside of Thunder Bay, but has expanded to respond to the broader health recruitment needs of Northwestern Ontario.

Local exhibitors included St. Joseph’s Care Group, RegenMed, Beendigen, George Jeffrey Children’s Centre, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, and the City of Thunder Bay. Recruiters from Marathon Family Health Team, Riverside Healthcare Facilities, and Atikokan General Hospital represented regional communities.

Top recruitment needs included nurses, personal support workers, and rehabilitation professionals including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists. “There are fantastic employment opportunities in Thunder Bay’s health care sector,” said Lexie Penko, Community Health Sciences Recruiter, CEDC. “Health care professionals here are competitively compensated and work in state-of-the-art facilities, and it is very worthwhile for students and professionals to consider careers with health care organizations anywhere in the region.”
