May 17, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay celebrated the grand opening of the Centennial Park Off-Leash Dog Area today.
Representatives of the City and many canine companions were in attendance to enjoy the new trail and the festivities, which involved celebratory remarks and an official ribbon cutting.
Conveniently located off the main parking lot at Centennial Park, the new off-leash area boasts a trail loop nearly 1 km in length. It is also nestled among the natural habitat of Centennial Park, creating a welcoming space for dogs of all sizes.
The project was spearheaded by the City's Off-Leash Dog Park Committee, which consists of City representatives as well as citizens passionate about maintaining safe and engaging parkland for people and furry friends alike.
"Supporting outdoor recreation and active lifestyles is an important priority for the City," said Rebecca Johnson, Councillor At Large and member of the Off-Leash Dog Park Committee. "With its close proximity to Centennial Park, this new off-leash area creates a wonderful opportunity for visitors to enjoy beautiful nature within the City, while getting some exercise at the same time."
"We hope it will be a popular gathering place for people and their dogs year-round."
