In honour of the 50th Anniversary of the Amalgamation of Port Arthur and Fort William into the City of Thunder Bay, nominations are now open for the ‘Citizens of Exceptional Achievement – Thunder Bay’s 50th Anniversary’ Volunteer Service Awardpresented by the City of Thunder Bay.

The Official Recognition Committee, along with the 50th Anniversary Steering Committee, will be recognizing individuals who have volunteered extensive time toward improving and enriching the community and who have shown extraordinary leadership, innovation and meaningful voluntary contributions.

“As a community, we increasingly rely on volunteers and it is important that we collectively value and recognize their contributions,” said Loretta Turpin, Chair of the Official Recognition Advisory Committee. “To recognize Thunder Bay’s 50th Anniversary, the two Committees have created a special award to acknowledge the work of Thunder Bay’s longstanding volunteers.”

Individuals that are nominated must also have a minimum of 50 years of cumulative, documented volunteer service in Thunder Bay.

“There are individuals in Thunder Bay who do important and commendable work in our community,” said Councillor Shelby Ch’ng, Chair of the 50th Anniversary Steering Committee. “We know that there are volunteers in our community with 50 or more years of volunteer service, and we want to ensure that they are recognized and celebrated.”

The deadline for nominations is Friday, Oct. 23. A virtual celebration will be scheduled before the end of the year to recognize the winners.
