May 7, 2018 - Community sport leaders including board members, coaches, staff and volunteers are invited to participate in a full day of workshops and discussions at the City's first community sport networking and professional development event.
The Thunder Bay Sports Summit will take place on Saturday, May 26 at the West Thunder Community Centre, and will feature celebrated former Olympian Susan Auch, who will deliver the keynote address. The three-time Olympic speed skating medalist has taken on a high level leadership role and is currently the CEO of Speed Skating Canada.
Auch will join fellow Olympic medalist Haley Irwin and Rick Lang in a panel discussion on the recent Winter Olympics held in PyeongChang, South Korea.
The Summit will feature sessions on topics such as concussion management, sport nutrition, marketing, recruitment and developing cultural awareness in sport.
"I am very excited to take part in Thunder Bay's first ever Sports Summit," said Auch. "Canadians love sport and in order for it to become a part of our everyday lives, we need to develop and inspire all levels of activity leaders. Forums such as this give us the opportunity to share and learn from each other."
"We are pleased to host this inaugural summit," said Paul Burke, Special Events Developer and Summit Committee Chair. "This is a great professional development opportunity that will benefit our sport community's volunteer leaders in the wonderful work they do."
The event's Presenting Sponsors are the Thunder Bay Kings, hosts of the 2019 Telus Cup. Other supporters include Healthy Kids Community Challenge, Impact Promotions, Mallons Promotional Clothing & Products and Sportop Marketing.
The event runs from 9:30 am to 4 pm, and the cost to participate is $25 per person, including lunch. Pre-registration is required. To sign-up call 625-8463 and quote course code 395688.
