After months of preliminary design work and public consultation, the preferred design for Victoria and Syndicate Avenues will be on display at a public open house.

On May 3, from 3 to 7 pm, consultants with KGS Group, Scatliff+Miller+Murray and City of Thunder Bay representatives will be at Centre Court in Victoriaville to show what the neighbourhood could look like in just a couple of years.

Victoriaville Mall is slated for demolition in the summer of 2024, with the reconstruction of Victoria and Syndicate Avenues taking place in 2025. The change in the urban area will allow for a revitalization of the surrounding neighbourhood.

“This is a project that will help transform the downtown south core for years to come,” said Joel DePeuter, Director – Development Services. “We want to share the vision for the neighbourhood, and share what we heard when we first introduced concepts for the neighbourhood last summer.”

This fall, the reconstruction of building facades, currently inside Victoriaville Mall will take place, to prepare the buildings for exposure to the elements. This is the second round of Open House events to get public feedback on how the neighbourhood could look and feel. Previous events were held in August 2022.

City Council directed the demolition of the mall in 2020, while consultants leading the demolition and reconstruction work were hired in February 2022.
