Sept. 21, 2015 - The Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee is encouraging the public to attend their annual Open Houses and have a chance to meet their members, learn about accessibility and provide feedback on barrier removal across City facilities and services.

"The City is fortunate to have an active and dedicated Accessibility Advisory Committee made up of volunteer members who meet regularly to advocate from lived experience for the removal of barriers across all of our city facilities and services," said Scott Garner, Municipal Accessibility Specialist.

There will be two Open Houses both in the afternoon and evening to accommodate schedules.

"It's important that the public know they have a chance to provide feedback as well, to learn the role of the committee, and to understand the successes and challenges the City has as we strive to meet and exceed the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act in order to make Thunder Bay fully accessible to all of our residents and visitors," added Garner.

City staff from the Thunder Bay Police Service, Licensing and Enforcement, Thunder Bay Transit and Active Transportation will be on hand to give short presentations and answer questions.

Accessibility accommodation, such as materials in other formats, can be arranged by contacting sgarner@thunderbay.ca or calling 625-2240. American Sign Language interpretation will be available on Thursday, Sept. 24.

Real-time captioning will be available on both dates. For those who cannot attend, both events will be live streamed at: www.thunderbay.ca/AACopenhouse
