As a result of the recent warm weather, ice conditions at the City’s outdoor rinks have significantly deteriorated and as such all outdoor rinks (with the exception of the rink at Prince Arthur’s Landing) have been temporarily closed.
Lights will be turned off, change rooms will be closed and residents are asked to stay off the ice surfaces.
“The ice is extremely soft, and in some areas completely melted” said Cory Halvorsen, Manager, Parks & Open Spaces. “When the temperatures drop again, we will get out and attempt to repair the ice surfaces, but the forecast unfortunately isn’t showing lower temperatures until next week.”
An update will be issued when rinks are reopened.
The refrigerated rink at Prince Arthur’s Landing is not impacted by this closure and is still open for skating Monday-Wednesday 12 pm-8 pm and Thursday-Sunday 12 pm-9 pm.
Visit www.thunderbay.ca/outdoorrinks for a listing and interactive map of all outdoor rinks, and to see the amenities available and whether each rink is open or closed.
