June 7, 2017 - A section of Dawson Road between Skyline Avenue and Hilldale Road will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction, due to pavement rehabilitation starting on Monday, June 12.
The pavement rehabilitation will involve removal of the existing asphalt surface, new curb and gutter replacement, and resurfacing of the street with two lifts of asphalt pavement. The road work will take place in two stages.
Stage One will involve work on the eastbound lanes. Access to Dawson Road from the abutting side roads including, Skyline Avenue, Toivo Street, Sherwood Drive, Masters Street and Fassina Street will be closed. Stage One is expected to take up to six weeks to be completed.
Stage Two will involve work on the westbound lanes and will begin once Stage One is substantially complete. Abutting side roads will have access to Dawson Road. Stage two is expected to take up to seven weeks to be completed.
Traffic detours will be posted at the site. Motorists are asked to drive with caution around the construction site and obey all posted signage.
The City of Thunder Bay is investing $34.7 million in 2017 on road and sidewalk rehabilitation, residential paving, sewer and watermain repair/replacement, bridge work and streetlight renewal.
