The construction of the new playground at Centennial Park has officially begun. Access to the farm area and the trails adjacent to it is restricted until the construction is complete. Site work is expected to be complete by the end of November, and the installation of the playground structures will take place in the spring.
The playground redesign is a result of extensive public engagement that took place in 2019. During the public engagement, participants shared their preferences on playground components, themes, materials and colour schemes.
“The responses were mostly in favour of using wood structures for the playground,” said Werner Schwar, Supervisor of Parks & Open Spaces Planning. “Keeping the public’s interests top of mind, we will be utilizing a woodland adventure theme, as it suits Centennial Park’s forested setting and respects the nostalgia for the previously removed structures.”
Those visiting Centennial Park are asked to avoid the construction area if possible, obey posted signage and use extra caution.
