Installation of Pride crosswalks continues at two intersections: the first at the intersection of Donald Street and May Street, and the second at the intersection of Bay Street and Algoma Street.
The crosswalk painting has necessitated partial road closures at each location.
The work at the intersection of Donald and May Streets has now been completed.
Algoma Street is currently closed from Cornwall Avenue to Bay Street with local traffic access only. Bay Street traffic may proceed straight through the intersection; however, south turning may be interrupted. Motorists are asked to use Court Street as an alternate route and to drive with caution. Detours will change as the work proceeds – please follow signage. Painting of the transgender crosswalk at this intersection is expected to be complete on Friday, Sept. 25.
“The City is happy to be working with Thunder Pride and North-West Lines to install the City’s first Pride Crosswalks, and we ask the public to have patience driving in the areas during the installation,” said Kayla Dixon, City of Thunder Bay’s Director of Engineering & Operations.
The crosswalks have been made possible with funding and in-kind support from Thunder Pride and North-West Lines Ltd.
