JUNE 2023

WHEREAS, Thunder Bay celebrates the diversity that strengthens our city, including individuals who identify as two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and all other diverse sexual and gender identities; and

WHEREAS, City Council reaffirms its commitment to diversity, equity, respect and inclusion within our community; and

WHEREAS, the intent is to encourage Thunder Bay to be an inclusive and welcoming place for people of all sexual and gender identities to attend school, to work, to raise a family, to start a business, to live; and

WHEREAS, while there has been great progress towards acceptance and equality, City Council stands with Thunder Bay’s 2SLGBTQIA+ communities in recognizing that more work needs to be done to ensure that members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities no longer face discrimination, hate or violence because of who they are, their gender or sexual identity, or who they love; and

WHEREAS, celebrating PRIDE Month raises awareness and advocacy for the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, it is also an opportunity for all residents to engage in dialogue on inclusion and to harness an improved understanding for acceptance of the Transgender, Queer and Two-Spirit Communities in Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario.

WHEREAS, Rainbow Collective of Thunder Bay & Thunder Pride promotes hope and support for our youth and all other community members who experience bullying and harassment based on their sexual orientation or gender identity; and

NOW THEREFORE, I, Ken Boshcoff, Mayor of the City of Thunder Bay do hereby proclaim June 2023 as Pride month in the City of Thunder Bay.
