May 24, 2018 - The owner of a North Cumberland Street apartment building was found guilty in Provincial Court yesterday for failing to comply with an Inspection Order written by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue. After being found guilty, the owner was issued fines totalling $20,000 plus court costs.

The charges relate to a routine inspection by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue in which an Inspection Order was issued to repair a damaged fire separation. When the compliance date had lapsed, the violation remained outstanding and charges were laid. All Fire Code violations have since been corrected.  Thunder Bay Fire Rescue reminds all building owners that they are responsible to comply with the Ontario Fire Code.

"Failing to comply with an Inspection Order can result in a fine of up to $20,000 for every day you are not compliant," said Deputy Fire Chief Greg Hankkio. "If property owners ensure their buildings are in compliance with the Fire Code, lives and property will be saved in the event of a fire."
