Residents are invited to celebrate National Public Works Week virtually this week to learn about how public works services and activities support the community every day. The event runs online via the City of Thunder Bay’s Facebook Page until May 22 and will encourage citizens to learn more about how our public works professionals make a difference in the community.
“Public works professionals continue to work on the front line and behind the scenes to provide essential services for the residents of Thunder Bay,” said Kerri Marshall, General Manager Infrastructure & Operations. “We have just been through an unprecedented and unpredictable year. It is important to educate residents about public works and recognize the work these professionals do, often in challenging conditions.”
Services include but are not limited to roads and bridges, street lighting, traffic control, water supply, water distribution, waste management, sewage collection, drainage, park operations, transit services and administrative functions.
Residents are also invited to take part in the two National Public Works Week contests:
- Take a photo inside or outside of your home that highlights public works in Thunder Bay. Then upload it to social media (Facebook, Twitter or Instagram) using the Hashtag #TBayPublicWorks (contest is open to all ages)
- Children under the age of 12 are encouraged to draw or colour a photo of something related to public works, or a thank-you message to our public works professionals. Then parents/guardians are to take a photo of their child with their work of art and upload it to social media (Facebook, Twitter or Instagram) using the Hashtag #TBayPublicWorks
Prizes will be awarded through a random draw, and winners will be contacted via social media.
