As the City of Thunder Bay prepares for its 2022 budget year ahead, City Council is looking for citizen input to help inform their decision making.
“Each time you use a City service, whether it be garbage collection, having your street plowed or enjoying a new recreation trail, those services are made possible by funding provided in the City budget,” said Councillor Mark Bentz, Chair of Administrative Services. “The budget determines what your tax dollars will, and will not fund; your feedback is very important in setting a budget that reflects the needs of our community and we welcome your involvement.”
City Council will receive all citizen feedback in advance of their review of the proposed 2022 budget prepared by Administration and presented to City Council in early January.
“As we plan for the 2022 budget year, we are still feeling the financial impacts of the pandemic,” said Linda Evans, General Manager – Corporate Services and Long Term Care & City Treasurer. “City Council has some tough decisions to make as we look to the year ahead. Feedback from residents will help them as they undertake this decision making.”
Residents are encouraged to share their feedback through a pre-budget survey. The survey can be found online on our Get Involved page, and will also be printed in The Source on Thursday, June 10. Completed surveys can be submitted online, mailed to the City, or deposited in any of the Thunder Bay Public Library drop boxes by June 29.
Residents are also invited to tune in to a virtual pre-budget town hall with Councillor Mark Bentz, City Manager Norm Gale, and Linda Evans - General Manager Corporate Services & Long-Term Care & City Treasurer, along with representatives from City departments. The online event will air Tuesday, June 22, from 6:30 - 7:30 pm and can be view onShaw TV Cable 10, Tbaytel TV Channel 110, or online on our Watch Council Meetings page.
Residents are invited to submit advance questions for the pre-budget town hall by emailing ctbbudget@thunderbay.ca or calling 625-2230: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, or during the live event on June 22, from 6:30 - 7:30 pm.
Further input opportunities will be available to residents when the proposed 2022 budget is released in early January including opportunities for deputations to City Council.
