On behalf of City Council, Mayor Bill Mauro made the following statement today regarding the situation in Ukraine. The Ukrainian flag will also be raised at City Hall.
“The City of Thunder Bay stands with the people of Ukraine, their families, and our Ukrainian-Canadian community here in Thunder Bay, many of whom still have family residing there.
I join with other Mayors as we call on the Federal government to welcome those fleeing the conflict with Ukraine into our country with open arms. We collectively stand for peace, and are in full support of the strict sanctions the federal government has imposed on Russia.
We strongly condemn this brazen and unprovoked attack.
Our thoughts go out to all of our Ukrainian friends and neighbours, who are an integral part of what makes our community so great, during this difficult and deeply concerning time.”
