Premiering their new single Bombs Away for the first time live, Vancouver-based indie rock band The Zolas will headline the August 22 edition of the City of Thunder Bay’s Live on the Waterfront in Marina Park.
Anyone who caught onto the slow-burn success of the band’s 2012 album Ancient Mars could sense that something in The Zolas was threatening to bubble over. After a year of recording, 2016’s Swooner (Light Organ Records) showed an alternative pop collaboration at the top of their creative game. The band was nominated for a Breakthrough Group of the Year Juno Award last year.
“Everybody tells us that Thunder Bay is low key and the prettiest part of Ontario. Having so far only seen the savage ice highway side of your area, we can’t wait to experience that famous TBay hospitality,” said Zach Gray of The Zolas. “Plus, we’ll get the chance to test out some new stuff like our single Bombs Away, so that only makes it sweeter.”
Also on the OPG Community Stage next Wednesday will be Winnipeg rock act The Treble and Thunder Bay’s Ocean City Defender.
Live on the Waterfront, presented by Ontario Power Generation and funded in part by the Government of Ontario, runs 6 pm to 9 pm every Wednesday in Marina Park until the end of August. Admission is free.
