National Coaches Week is being held across Canada from Sept. 19 to 27 to celebrate the tremendous positive impact coaches have on athletes and communities. National Coaches Week serves as an opportunity to recognize coaches for the integral role they play. It is a great time to show appreciation for everything coaches do for athletes, their teams and the community. Athletes and parents are encouraged to say thank you by simply saying #ThanksCoach on social media.

“Thunder Bay has a proud sports history,” said Cindy Orr, Sport & Community Event Development Coordinator. “It is a time to pay tribute to the efforts of these volunteers who have dedicated themselves to coach our young people. Coaches are a crucial part of building a healthy, active community.”

“Our city has produced some outstanding athletes and much of that is due to the great coaching they have received right here at home,” said Diane Imrie, Executive Director of the Northwestern Ontario Hall of Fame.

The Coaches Association of Ontario will be offering free professional development webinars and lunchtime sessions with sports experts. Both of these opportunities will be free to all coaches during National Coaches Week for the first time.  For registration information, visit www.coachesontario.ca.
