September 22, 2017 - A delegation from Nanning, China, signed an official Friendship Agreement between the City of Thunder Bay and Nanning, China, on Friday, Sept. 22, at City Hall. The Agreement promotes mutual understanding and friendship between the people of Canada and the People's Republic of China.
"The purpose of a Friendship Agreement is to enhance and develop friendship and cooperation between our two cities," said Acting Mayor, Brian McKinnon. "We are delighted that Nanning is committed to this relationship and look forward to fostering cultural, economic and humanitarian exchange between our great cities."
The seven person Nanning delegation arrived in Thunder Bay on Thursday, Sept. 21, and will depart Friday, Sept. 22. The Nanning delegation includes:
Mr. Samuel Rong, President - Canadian Foundation Centre for International Education (CFCIE)
Mr. Feng Xuejun, Deputy Secretary of CPC Nanning Committee
Mr. Liang Peizheng, Director of Nanning Commerce Bureau
Mr. He Shanghan, Director of Nanning Economic and Technological Development Area
Ms. Peng Jian, Director of Nanning Foreign Affairs and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office
Mr. Liang Guolu, Deputy Secretary of CPC Qingxiu District Committee of Nanning
Ms. Xiong Wei, Section Chief of Nanning Foreign Affairs and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office
During their visit, the delegation experienced local hospitality while learning more about Thunder Bay's culture and history, diverse economy, unique lifestyle, and the region's natural environment. They met with staff from the Lakehead District School Board and Lakehead University's Faculty of Natural Resources Management and International Student Services, as well as touring the University's Biorefining Research Institute.
