June 1, 2017 - Enzo Fabiano and John Gould of Union Gas will receive Fire Safety Awards from the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council at a ceremony today in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.

In 2016, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue partnered with Fabiano and Gould, on behalf of Union Gas, to promote carbon monoxide safety. Together they produced a carbon monoxide awareness video with Shaw TV that aired on the Shaw television network and on YouTube in May 2016.

In addition to the video, Fabiano and Gould have been instrumental in facilitating two donations of combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms worth $8,000 to Thunder Bay Fire Rescue's SAFE Program (Smoke/CO Alarms For Everyone). The donations took place in November 2015 and November 2016. The SAFE Program is an assistance-based program geared towards Thunder Bay homeowners who require assistance with the purchase or installation of smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms. The SAFE Program assists these homeowners in being compliant with the Ontario Fire Code.

"Thunder Bay Fire Rescue is grateful to have the support of Enzo and John and Union Gas," said Deputy Fire Chief Greg Hankkio. "The partnership has gone a long way to educate Thunder Bay homeowners about carbon monoxide safety. Through our SAFE Program we have been able to help numerous Thunder Bay homeowners."
