The 2024 Ontario Winter Games, presented by Hydro One and proudly supported by Volunteer Sponsor Tbaytel, are coming to Thunder Bay February 16 – 26 at sporting venues across the city.

As the Ontario Winter Games committee gears up for one of the most significant sporting events in Thunder Bay, the invaluable contributions of volunteers take the stage. The deadline to apply to become a volunteer is November 30.

More than 700 volunteers will be required to assist, and the community is encouraged to apply to be a part of this exciting event. The Games are Ontario’s largest multi-sport event, providing top young athletes from across the province with development and competitive opportunities to prepare them for national and international competition.

The Games will take place at multiple sporting venues and include various events ranging from ringette to cross country skiing, from fencing to wrestling. The event will feature over 2000 participants (athletes, coaches, and officials), with most athletes’ ages ranging from 12 to 18 years old.

Volunteer roles for the games will range from accreditation, security, sport and event operations, transportation, and helping at the opening ceremonies. Other volunteer examples may be in food services - assisting with the delivery of meals, administration - running the registration area, sports, etc.

The Ontario Winter Games were first delivered in 1970 by the City of Etobicoke, and last held in Thunder Bay in 1974.
