May 24, 2016 - On Wednesday, May 25 a controlled shutdown of the Chamberlain Pumping Station will be carried out to facilitate the ongoing capital upgrade, which involves replacing aging infrastructure at the Station.
Beginning at 7 pm on May 25, several distribution valves will be closed, temporarily isolating the Chamberlain Pumping Station from the water distribution system. As the capital upgrade proceeds, additional shutdowns will be required to complete the work.
Residents in the Chamberlain Street, Shuniah Street, and Margaret Street areas may notice discoloured water coming from their taps starting at 7 pm and continuing overnight.
City crews will work to flush the discoloured water from the system once the valves are reopened. However, residents are advised to follow the steps below if they notice their water is discoloured.
- Do not open any HOT water taps.
- Open only one COLD water tap (a tap that does not have a water filter system attached to it) and allow the water to flow at a medium flow until the water runs clear.
- Once the single COLD water tap is running clear, open all other taps including HOT water taps and flush until all water runs clear.
Running cold water taps for five minutes should clear any discoloured water. If discolouration returns, please repeat steps 1 to 3.
If the water does not clear after following the procedure above, residents can contact Infrastructure & Operations Dispatch at 625-2195.
