DECEMBER 1, 2024


WHEREAS, December 1 marks World AIDS Day and the beginning of Indigenous AIDS Awareness Week; and

WHEREAS, we remember those we lost to HIV and recognize the strength and resilience of those living with HIV. We also reflect on the incredible strides we’ve made over the years thanks to scientific advances and dedicated community efforts; and

WHEREAS, it’s also a day to acknowledge that our work is far from over. HIV acqisitions continue to rise in Canada, often affecting the most vulnerable communities including people who use drugs, Indigenous people and newcomers to Canada; and

WHEREAS, lets continue to work together to end HIV in Canada.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Ken Boshcoff, Mayor of the City of Thunder Bay, do hereby proclaim the December 1, 2024 as World AIDS Day in the City of Thunder Bay.
