WHEREAS, this day highlights the importance on menstrual equity and public education that advocates for equitable access to proper menstrual hygiene; and

WHEREAS, Menstrual Health Day raises awareness about the challenges that women, girls and gender diverse people experience due to menstruation. It also highlights the importance of menstrual hygiene. Talking about this is an important part of reducing the stigma around periods; and

WHEREAS, it is a time to speak positively about periods and help end the stigma around them, while understanding the need for equity. This is something the City of Thunder Bay actively does, by providing access to free menstruation hygiene product in City-owned facilities, to try and reduce the impact of period poverty within the City; and

WHEREAS, through open dialogue to help counter taboos surrounding periods, we can work to promote equitable access to hygiene needs and products.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Ken Boshcoff, on behalf of Thunder Bay City Council, do hereby proclaim May 28, 2023 as “World Menstrual Health Day” in the City of Thunder Bay.
