NOVEMBER 16, 2023

WHEREAS, in 2023, an estimated 6700 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in Canada and 90 percent will eventually die from the disease; and

WHEREAS, Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all major cancers, and just 10 percent of those diagnosed survive five years or longer; and

WHEREAS, Pancreatic cancer is the now third leading cause of cancer related death in Canada; and

WHEREAS, Pancreatic cancer has taken too many lives, far too quickly. Action must be taken to fight the worlds toughest cancer; and

WHEREAS, the good health and well-being of the residents of Thunder Bay are enhanced as a direct result of increased awareness about the risks and symptoms of pancreatic cancer, and research into early detection, causes, ad effective treatment.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Ken Boshcoff, the Mayor of the City of Thunder Bay, do hereby proclaim November 16, 2023 as Pancreatic Cancer Day in the City of Thunder Bay.
