What is mitigation?
Climate change mitigation is the promotion of policy, regulatory and project-based measures that contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere which are the cause of climate change.
The City of Thunder Bay has committed to a reduction of community greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 20% below 2009 levels by 2020.
What is adaptation?
Climate change adaptation initiatives or actions taken in response to actual or projected climate change impacts and which reduce the effects of climate change on built, natural and social systems.
The City of Thunder Bay has committed to taking action to increase its adaptive capacity and resilience. Adaptation is essential to reduce the potential for damages that cannot be avoided and take advantage of opportunities.
