Monetary donations
Donations to the Thunder Bay 55 Plus Centre help with the daily operating costs of the Centre and to purchase supplies and equipment for the daily activities, courses and support programs offered.
There are many ways to donate to the 55 Plus Centre. The donations we gratefully accept are:
- Memorial Donations
- Annual Thanks Giving Campaign in October
- General Donations
- Will/Bequests
Recognition for donations
Recognition shall be provided for all financial donations to the Board utilizing one of the following criteria:
- Cumulative Total of annual Blitz donations, or
- Significant, one-time donations.
Cumulative total of annual blitz donations:
The Cumulative Total of Blitz donations shall be recognized by placing the donor's desired designation on the Honour Role.
Only one Honour Role recognition, at the highest category attained, will be provided per cumulative donation total.
Individual donors shall make a determination of the inscription each time their donations total to a new category. At this time, a donor may opt to honour an additional person, but no category change will occur and recognition will be at the lowest category.
The Honour Roll shall be featured prominently within the Centre.
Donation Categories:
- $500 - $1,999
- $2,000 - $4,999
- $5,000 - $9,999
- $10,000 - $19,999
- $20,000 - $49,999
- $50,000 and up
Significant, one-time donations
A significant, one-time donation shall mean a single donation of $25,000 or more.

Item donations
Policy statement
Donations to the Thunder Bay 55 Plus Centre and/or Board of Directors will be accepted based on the following criteria:
- There is adequate space for the item(s).
- There is a need for the item(s).
- The item(s) is in good condition.
- The item(s) is suitable for programs, services or Board activities.
- The item(s) is given free and clear to the Centre.
- The item(s) may be disposed when no longer needed.
Procedures
- Individuals who are interested in donating physical property to the Centre will notify the Supervisor - Older Adult Unit or designate.
- The Supervisor will determine the suitability and usefulness of the article(s) (i.e. furniture, musical instruments, fitness or general equipment, etc.). If appropriate, the Supervisor will suggest the items be donated to the Board of Directors for an upcoming fund raise event, such as a raffle or yard sale.
- Arrangements will be made to have item(s) delivered by the donor. Exceptions will be assessed on an individual basis.
- The donor may be required to complete the "In Kind" donation form, which states that the Centre may display, loan, retain or dispose of any donated items, at the discretion of the Centre.
- The original form will be filed in the main office and the donor will be given a copy for their records.
- Office staff will continue to accept general donations to the board for their on-going activities (i.e. books, wool, raffle items, playing cards, etc.).
